When entering a hotel room, most people drop their bags and flop straight onto the bed after a long day of travelling.
But hotel workers and guests alike are urging people to take a five-second step to keep their stay as hygienic as possible.
On TikTok, user @anastasiastefa9 shared the "non-negotiable" thing she does the moment she walks into a room.
She said: "First thing I do when I enter a hotel room... I'm convinced that the decoration stuff on the bed never gets washed."
In the clip, she's seen immediately throwing the decorative pillows and bed runner onto the floor, leaving just the standard white sheets behind.
Taking it one step further, some travellers say it's also worth flipping your pillow over - so you're sleeping on the side that hasn't been touching the decorative cushions.
The video quickly sparked a reaction online, with many people admitting they do the exact same thing.
One user said: "Omg me too, and I bring my own silk pillowcases - is that too extra?"
Another added: "Ex-housekeeper here - cushions and other decorative bits don't get washed. Only bed sheets and pillows. The glasses and mugs just get rinsed in the bathroom."
A third user said: "I bring my own pillows anyway." One more added: "As someone who worked in a hotel for many years - a very expensive one... WE NEVER WASH THEM. Like, ever."
Another claimed: "I did housekeeping for a bit and got told not to change them unless it's obvious, so I'd 'accidentally' spill something on them to get it washed."
However, not everyone agreed, with one housekeeper saying their hotel does clean them after every guest.
Another added: "As I'm reading this, as an owner of a passenger ship, what is wrong with these hotels? The decor should be washed every few weeks or disinfected."
While not all hotels follow the same practices, the viral clip has left many travellers rethinking what they do the moment they check in.
